The Renegade - Dare To Be Different!

Tyrone Staben

Why 42% alcohol content? Gin under the microscope is essentially ethanol (from the redistillation of vodka), essential oils from botanicals (fruits, herbs, roots etc) and H2O (water!). 🥃👍

So for a given botanical make up, each gin has a precise level of ethanol (alcohol content) and water which make it balanced. Many gins in the market in my view are over or under in their ethanol content and outside this optimal point, leading to an over or under compensation from the ethanol. 🤯🤔

Personally, and regardless of balance, I also feel a gin with under 40% ABV doesnt give me enough kick and 45% or over is too high and I lose the gentle qualities of some of the botanicals used which can be drowned out by ethanol (which is sweet and has a burn). 🤐 High ABV gins can work but only for a specific botanical bill, to my mind. 😬

Renegade when distilled is captured from our pot still at 82% ish and we dilute it with pure demineralised water to 42%. Why? Because we did a bunch of tasting trials with different ethanol %'s before deciding and it was unanimous that this level had everything in perfect balance! 💥💥

Renegade by Doghouse Distillery is a "new age" take on an old world spirit. Dare to be different! 💀🤘
